The Minister for European Affairs' Visit to Greece and Cyprus Ahead of Denmark's EU Presidency
Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, visited Athens and Nicosia from January 22 to January 23, 2025, to meet with ministers in preparation for Denmark's EU Presidency.
The visit included a meeting with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou to discuss i.e. Ukraine, the EU's competitiveness, and the handling of irregular migration. The minister also visited The Hellenic Parliament as well as The Hellenic Coast Guard and FRONTEX to observe how the Hellenic Coast Guard secures the EU's external borders.
In Cyprus, the minister met with the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, where the conversation focused on Denmark's close cooperation with Cyprus, which will take over the EU Presidency immediately after Denmark.
The visit is part of the minister's preparations for Denmark's upcoming EU Presidency in the second half of 2025, during which Denmark aims to highlight key issues such as migration, security, and EU enlargement.
